When should I start my job search, I want to take some time off to recharge

Can’t blame ya, it’s nice to clear the head and not think about work.   Depending on your personal situation, you may not want to sit idle too long.

Let me explain why: The most difficult and tedious part of the job search is identifying an opportunity that matches well with your skill set, offers compensation consistent with your expectations and falls within a geography that is acceptable to the employer. This exercise can take a single click or endless months.

Based on our data and first-hand experience, the average time it takes most companies to onboard a candidate from the first interaction is 4-6 weeks.

This usually includes the following:

  1. Acceptance of resume/submission

  2. Scheduling of first interview (often phone or video)

  3. A second interview (video)

  4. A final (in-person if possible, or video)

  5. Negotiating the offer

  6. References and background checks

  7. The start date can add a few days to several weeks depending on the agreed upon timing

Our advice is to take time to recharge and get the positive juices flowing. But make sure to understand you might end up sitting a little longer than you like if you don’t get started on the job search sooner than later.
