Minimum expectations working with a recruiter (Etiquette for both sides!!!)

Looking for a new job is serious business. This is your livelihood we are talking about. Now just because its serious doesn’t mean it has to be a root canal. It is possible to have a very enjoyable experience that leads to brighter days. In fact, if it doesn’t feel that way you are probably better off sitting tight.

As with doctors, not all recruiters are created equally. So, what should you expect from a recruiter and what should they expect from you?

Recruiter

It’s simple, protect the candidate’s identity. Don’t share the name or information of a candidate without their prior consent. Seems like a no brainer but you would be amazed at how many recruiters sling resumes around without the candidate’s knowledge until they get a bite. That never ends well. Second.   Respond to people. Good, bad, indifferent. Give updates and explanations when possible. Lastly, be mindful and appreciative of your candidate’s time

Candidate

Follow these simple rules and you will be high on the list. Be truthful with the recruiter and yourself. Respond in a timely fashion. Make yourself available as much as possible without jeopardizing your work. Don’t be afraid to show that you are interested. Let it be known. It’s sort of like dating. You go out to dinner and then get a text three days later. You don’t feel the love and everyone likes to feel the love. Finally, smile and have a little fun. If you take it too seriously, your true personality may not come out.
